Not sure if the cpap/ asthma treatment is used alot in the uk here is a link that talks of a small study http://www.nationalasthma.org.au/handbook/other-comorbidities/obstr...

Also there is alot of links to asthma and OSA so if his asthma was controlled the night of the study it may explain why it was a good night

We found with Jaydon when he had 3 times his normal brown inhaler daily his symptoms were less the consultant felt that he could remain on high dose steroids as it would affect immunity

here is a video of jaydon his sleep study was OK he had his tonsils and adnoids removed and removal of some aiwrway tissue

Before surgery : http://youtu.be/4-g38u6nEWI

After surgery : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O-KYs4Z8_mA&feature=youtu.be

Video for us has been the key to getting treatment

The links with asthma and OSA are getting a lot more interest these days, but still not as much emphasis as it should.  One study suggested 40% of asthmatics have undiagnosed sleep apnoea.  Furthermore, more medics are thinking that the OSA is actually causing or worsening the asthma.  There's an article here about it http://www.snoring.ie/asthma_and_sleepapnoea.php

Those videos are awful to watch but so useful, I have the same thing for Edward, they were vital in getting him seen, but even then I don't think they understood fully until they saw it for themselves, keep pushing to be seen. In the end I phoned Edward's consultant's secretary and demanded an emergency appointment or I'd be calling the paramedics as I was so worried he couldn't wait any longer. It worked, he was seen 5 days later, not my idea of an emergency time scale but better than several months.
It's so easy to accept what they say and so hard to disagree, but you know your child best, follow your instincts and don't give up xx

Thanks - he improved for a few weeks i couldnt believe it, but now its just the same as he always was.He was jerking so badly last night. He aint aware of what he is doin hen he is u  shoutin etc either. The videos look useful but because he is up trashing his room i'm sure he would break it or summit. Life cant go on like this no more, t xx

This doesn't sound good at all Tracey, and it's not surprising you feel anxious.  Did you try to get the appointment brought forward?

i rang them today after another terrible night last night,i'm gettin apt brouht forward to next week, she will ring me to arrange it,sai he may need an eeg? t xx

Well that's a relief Tracey, and a good idea is to write it all down so you don't forget to mention anything significant.  Don't worry if you feel upset as at least they'll realise how much of a worry this all is to you.  Good luck...

Any joy on an appointment date ? The Eeg may be because of the jerking he is doing in his sleep it will look at the brains electrical  activity ....Jaydon had one the place electrodes attached to wires on there scalp painless but annoying for them  good luck

Tracy, I've been following the discussion but didn't want to interupt, I have a illness on top of the Sleep Apnea called Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD) basically me arms and legs move and kick and my body used to jerk violently and sometimes I would be 6 inches off the bed, I'm not saying this is what your son has but there all lots of disorders out there. My sleep Dr prescribed medication for it but as I have gone off all meds I didn't take them. Since being on a CPAP, it has reduced dramatically and as my sleep study review a couple of months ago it was so much better. I believe the lack of oxygen to my body and brain was cause it. Like I said your son may not have something like it but there are treatment once he get diagnosed properly.

hiya. His apt is tues so not long now. Yes thy mentioned yesterday thats what its for. Terry he doesn't do it violently or anything but what you're saying makes sense.  Did any of u get to see the discussion on GMTV about it?

So can anyone give me any tips/questions to ask so I'm armed lol

t xx

Tracey, there are other illness like restless leg syndrome but that is supposed to be more like ants crawling up the inside of your legs and people have to move them. I'm in Australia so we don't get GMTV, Kath would probably be best to give you tips / questions you need to ask because she deals with alot more children. Make sure you write any down on paper so you don't forget anything you want to ask, personally, I think he needs another sleep study.

So pleased to hear you've got the appointment brought forward Tracey, and looking forward to hearing what they say is 'acceptable.'  It's not acceptable if your son is having an AHI over 5 at such a young age.  My own Dad has a sleep study and his was almost 6, but at the age of 78 and with no undue tiredness, then that is acceptable, but a young boy isn't!!!  The other problem is that not all young children show desats as their bodies work very hard to keep their 02 levels up (hence the videos you've seen).  I'm going to call on a wonderful sleep tech I know, who I hope will add to this discussion before your appointment.
