Squeaking Around the Elbow Assembly of the Mirage Quattro

I am a newbie (been on CPAP for almost 2 weeks).  Last night was one of the 2 worst nights that I have had yet.  Last night it was cool in southeast Texas  I went to bed without the heater on ( before CPAP I would sleep without the heater on in cool weather but I also would always sleep with my head under the covers--and I have not adjusted well to not been able to do this).  I had difficulty falling to sleep because I was sensitive to the air that was surrounding my face.  The air felt really cool and did not feel like a leak.  I think I was feeling air from the exhalation port.  I sometimes have leaks around my eyes but that didn't seem like it was the problem either.  I had the Amara on and decided to change to my original mask the Mirage Quattro but I still felt the same.  I decided to see how I would feel if I increased the humidifier setting from 3 to 4 and I turned on the central heating but I did not experience much improvement.  I continued struggling and finally the Quattro started squeaking in the elbow assembly area when I was turned and changed sleeping positions.  This noise made it impossible for me to get to sleep.  So after about 4 hours I turned the machine off.  I do not know what is going on with that entire elbow/valve area.  A couple of days ago I tried disassembling the entire mask so I could thoroughly clean it.  But I could not get that entire portion (elbow assembly etc) off.  So I know I did not reassemble it incorrectly.  Also I had slept at least 1 night with the mask since cleaning without a problem.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It's a difficult one to answer Wanda with not living in your kind of climate. It sounds like the sudden drop in temperature was the biggest problem so perhaps a few days of having the central heating on to thoroughly warm the bedroom will help.  The only time I notice the cool air is when the temperatures really plummet - in the same way I suppose when our leather sofa is always comfy to sit on, but when the weather's freezing, the cold is noticeable when first sitting on it.  Have you got a hose cover on your tube?  Like this one (but you should be able to get one out in Texas) CPAP HOSE COVER.

Sounds like you may have dislodged the elbow when you tried to get it off for cleaning.  I'm not sure if you have the original Quattro or Quattro FX, but if you search for a video then you should find one for disassembling the mask.

Kath,

Thanks for the response.  Yes I purchased a hose cover shortly after starting to use the CPAP.  I am trying to purchase any products that will enhance success with my CPAP therapy.  I have the Mirage Quattro.  Last night I changed the humidifer to 5 which helped so much more.  I slept well for over 8 hours (I am still on holiday leave) with only slight leaking of air in my eyes during the early morning hours.

I called the DME this morning and they shared that they thought the mask was defective and that if it was squeaking it would continue.  So I have an appointment this afternoon to switch the mask out.

Good to hear you had a better night with the humidification raised, and also good to hear the DME is acting quickly to change the mask.  You're getting to realise that we bob along nicely until a new problem occurs - it's a learning process, and even when we think we've cracked it, a new challenge comes along You are still having a great start Wanda.

Kath,  thanks I feel like I have learned a lot in the past 2 weeks.  The DME company left the mask at the receptionist desk since they were all booked today.  I signed on the dotted line and was off with my new Mirage Quattro.

Great to hear Wanda, so hope everything's perfect for tonight
