New (to me) sealant for mask leaks
Hello to my friends across the water. I read in a forum about using the silicone that divers use to seal their scuba masks to seal CPAP masks that leak. I bought a tiny jar from an on-line retailer. It's very sticky and it just takes a little bit around the edge of the mask where it seals on my face. Most of it came off with a mask wipe and the rest came off the mask and my face with soap and water. This method is much more comfortable than the Macks Silicone Ear Plugs which I used to recommend. The US Amazon sells the product and several others. I found it worked quite well. I worry about leaks during the night and find myself half awake feeling around my face for displaced air flow. This method allows me to sleep with confidence that my mask won't leak. Of course you need to place the mask where you want it as it's hard to readjust with the sticky silicone.

Can you give us a link to these jars please? Quite a few people have commented lately on how the CPAP Moisture Therapy Cream we sell also helps with leaks too. I think it's because it's a fairly thick consistency. I'm for anythng that helps people with mask leaks

Thanks for the info Mary. Very interesting.
As it's important not to use stuff such as vaseline that could damage the mask, I checked the website shop details.
It says that this product does not perish silicone, which is good news.
Hope it cures your problem with air leaks.

www.diverightinscuba.com it is $10.00 for 1/4 oz. It's a tiny little jar, much smaller than the picture, but a little goes a long way. I'm glad to hear the CPAP Moisture Therapy does the same thing and you get more bang for your buck. The cream serves two purposes. Any scuba shop should have something similar and even Amazon sells a similar product.

Hi all, I had problems with a leaking mask before my last clinic visit. As a fairly new user, I hadn't realised the mask seal deteriorates over time. On mine, the seal had become so floppy that it no longer worked properly. I was issued with a replacement mask and all is well again. Nowhere near as many leaks now that keep me (& partner!) awake.

Yes, and if we were in the US we would get our mask cushions replaced at least every 3-6 months. Using any products containing alcohol, petroleum jelly and mineral oils will also make the mask cushions deteriorated quicker. I also noticed that my mask cushions last a lot longer now I use the CPAP Cleaning Wipes and I think this is for 2 reasons.....
- they've been manufactured with the best ingredients so as not to cause damage, yet completely remove all facial oils.
- with daily cleaning with the wipes they are not submerged in water (I only put water on my mask cushions once a week when I use the CPAP spray instead of the wipes, which does need rinsing.
