Takes my breath away
Hi all,
I have been using a Cpap now for over a year and I am still trying to acclimatise to the pressure that comes from my machine. Does anyone else feel that they struggle to breath against the pressure or claustrophobic.? Has anyone overcome the feeling of not being able to breath? Tips an advise welcome. Terry

Terry, welcome, good name, not sure what the settings are on the A Flex for EPR or Expiratory Pressure Relief, Kath may be able to explain it better as she uses a Phillips but on a Resmed we can change our EPR settings for more comfort on exhaling.
How does EPR work?
You can choose one of three comfort levels to determine how far the pressure can be decreased.
Setting 1: mild comfort—1 cm H 2O
Setting 2: medium comfort—2 cm H2O
Setting 3: maximum comfort—3 cm H2O

Do you have any respiratory problems, like asthma etc Terry? If so, then BiPAP would be a good solution for you if you haven't got used to it. Like the other Terry says there are expiratory A-Flex + C-Flex comfort setting too on the Respironics machines too, but it depends on which model of machine you have and whether your clinicians have locked that part. A quick telephone call to them should help you with this.

hi all,i have just had an opperation on my inner nose to open the airway because i couldnt breathe,i felt like i was being starved of air even though my cpap was blowing 14 psi,horrible feeling,but glad opp has worked.dont know if this is same as you terry ?hope this helps.muz [fellow hosehead]
