Drying hoses etc.
Hi I am new to cpap and forums (I just wrote all this pressed share and it disappeared into the ether) so I'll try again.
I have been using cpap for 3mths now, even though I knew for years I had a problem, I still live in hope that I will be told it is all a mistake and I don't have to use all this equipment, I hate it with a passion!
I now realise the only way forward is to try to make using cpap as pleasant as possible, Kath has been very helpful.
Last night I had a horrible time with a lot of water in my mask (nasal pillows), hose and the chamber under tank. It was my second night using my new hose lift and cover, so don't think it was condensation, the first night using them was great.
I had given everything it's big wash, I hung it to dry in my airing cupboard all day, which also has the boiler in so very warm, I did notice droplets still in my mask and tried to dry it with a tissue. I think the problem was there must have been a lot of water still in the ridges in my hose, I've certainly not had rainout like that before.
Has anyone else had this problem after washing hoses, if so how do you now manage to get inside dry, the weather is better today so my hose and mask are hopefully drying out properly in the air.
Any other tips for a trouble free night would be appreciated.

You dont need to clean the hose daily maybe just wipe the mask with a wet wipe that doesnt have an bad chemicals them to damage the mask.

Barbara, welcome, just on CPAP, you need to have a positive attitude towards it, it's not the nicest of treatments but it works and is much better than the illness's it can cause.
I wash my hose and gear twice a week and some only do it once a week.
Could you have over filled the chamber? What brand of CPAP do you have?
The other thing you can do is turn the CPAP on prior to attaching the mask and try blowing any excess air out first then attach the mask.

Yes I wondered about overfilling, I have a resmed S9 with a HSi humidifier. Last night I put slightly less water in and it was fine, I will try blowing it through first as well,
I will definitely keep it up as I am feeling a lot better

Barbara, I use the same machine, try just filling to the 3/4 mark. Are you using much water? If not, that should be fine. Glad yur feeling better, it take most people 3 - 6 months to feel the real improvements and then longer to get back to 'normal' whatever that is. It all depends on how long we have been undiagnosed and how servere our sleep apnea is, we basically have to heal, well done so far.

Yes it has been a long road getting there but finally just reaping the Benefit.
3/4 was what I roughly put in last night and it was plenty for me. So fingers crossed all will be well from now, I don't want to drown ,

See how that goes the next couple of nights then, do you know the model? It is written next to the power button, it will be either an Escape, a Elite or a Autoset.

It's an Autoset, but my clinic has set it to fixed pressure as she was supposed to change it for a fixed pressure model once they had taken the readings from it, I guess to save money, but she didn't have one available which took a humidifier so fixed the pressure for me to get used to by my next check, so I have no idea what I will eventually end up with, whatever is cheaper for the NHS I suspect. If I,m not happy I may think of buying one.

I clean my hose once a week, but it's important to clean it more often at times of any infection. I have a spare hose which I use when I wash mine, so haven't really taken much notice of how long it takes to dry. However, I doubt very small droplets would cause this problem Barbara. I remember you recently ordered the Mini Hose Cover extra to the main one. This might be your solution, as it's important to insulate all tubing, which people sometimes forget when they have a mask with an additional mini hose. As Terry says, you could also be over-filling the humidifier. Let us know if the problem persists.

Yes put the mini hose cover on as well as it arrived yesterday, all was fine last night. Perhaps when my clinic decides which machine I end up with I will buy a spare hose, good idea, as Terry suggested I also didn't overfill it last night.
