Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

Hello all, been a while since I was here.

I am successfully using my APAP machine and it's now second nature to wear it.

However, I have noticed recently that I am much more restless at night....I am mildly aware of it if I am in light sleep and the duvet gets kicked off the bed and has to be retrieved etc. No way could I get into a new relationship at the moment as the poor man would be kicked to death lol

Am wondering if this restlessness is related to my sleep apnoea and if I need to contact the sleep clinic.

Anyone got any thoughts/advice?

Hi Manda, and sorry for the delay (I've been in hospital this week).  Great to hear your APAP therapy is going well as I remember the initial struggles you had. It's a shame to hear you're having this restlessness though in your sleep and my first thoughts are that this could be PLMD (Periodic Limb Movement Disorder) and a good place to read up on this is on the Cleveland clinic's website https://my.clevelandclinic.org/childrens-hospital/health-info/disea... and you'll find lots more information on the internet about this.  Many people with it suffer from RLS (Restless Legs Syndrome) which is how this disorder is classified when awake, and when asleep it's called PLMD.  If you think this may be the problem, the first thing I'd do is to get your iron levels checked because lots of people have a deficiency with this.

Thanks for that Kath, that's interesting reading. Will get.my iron levels checked.

Hope you are okay if you've been in hospital.

You're welcome Amanda and let me know what your iron levels are out of interest.  My daughter was struggling with restless legs and when she was put on iron tablets it went away, so I hope it's the same for you.
