Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

I am new to the forum and am certain that this problem has been very well covered previously.

Do my wife and I really need to suffer the very loud gushing noise that eminates from my ResMed S9 AutoSet machine when it is working at full throttle?  It has disrupted our sleep every night for the last few months and she has now uses a separate bedroom.

I have recorded the noise.  It makes no difference if the setting is on CPAP or AutoSet. The presuure is the same as set by the Sleep Clinic when the machine was reset in October 2015 (min 4 max 12).  At that time the noise was not so loud.

Consequently, last week I visited my Sleep Clinic at the Royal Berks Hospital in Reading hoping for a solution.  The nurse checked the displays on the machine and contended that nothing was wrong.  The machine is treating my apnoeas so the noise would have to be endured.

I have since contacted ResMed directly.  They are unable to assist unless the compaint is raised by the Sleep Clinic at the Royal Berks..  How do I progess this?

Otherwise, can anyone recommend a CPAP machine which is definitely quiet?  I am prepared to buy a machine if it does the job without causing so much disruption to our sleep and relationship.

I know we've already spoken about this Flatliner, but there has to be something wrong if a Resmed S9 sounds like it's working on full throttle, as many people have commented when upgrading from the S8 it's much quieter.  Sometimes the noise can wake people up though (if they're light sleepers) when the pressures shoot up on APAP.  It might be worth asking the clinic if you could set it at CPAP on their recommended fixed pressure to see if the same thing happens. 

I purchased a humidifier which I use empty, (no water) as it reduces the  noise 

Sorry to reply so late to this, I've only just seen it.  Both my partner and I use CPAP machines.  As we travel around between in-laws etc, we have old masks at hand to save carrying them with us.  I recently had a completely sleepless night due to the noise from his S9.  The solution was simply to change the mask.  I've just picked up another Resmed Mirage FX for him :)
