DID YOU BUY YOUR OWN CPAP OR IS IT FROM THE NHS?
Thought I'd start off a new topic about our CPAP Machines - as to how many of us have bought our own machines or how many were provided them from the NHS?

Ok, I'll start the ball rolling....... I was provided a Fisher Paykel 604 from the NHS, but I wanted to have an APAP (Automatic CPAP) and one which I could see the results of my sleep via downloadable software. The hospital could only see the pressure I was on and how many hours I'd used it. Unfortunately, in our area (Hull) they can't give out APAP's, except in special circumstances, so I bought a Devilbiss Sleep Cube Auto, and have moved onto a Phillips Respironics System One for which the information I get from it is superb!

I got my testing done privately and bought my own machine. Cost less than a decent laptop, or a years car insurance, or a week in a nice hotel, and way more benficial.
I went for the best connected auto I could get, it's nice to plug a laptop in and see how much pressure is needed and be able to tweak the pressures as needed, and also send reports back to my provider to help get sorted.

I was given a ResMed Escape 2 (EPR) from NHS Hospital in Taunton, I later got a humidifier to add to it. I'm due for my 12 month check now and I've done well, I know I have 100% compliance with average 7 hours per night. I don't feel the need for a APAP and I'm sure they wouldn't provide one.
I have also had 2 sizes of 1 style of mask, + a nasal mask to try and have since bought my own (new FX), although my clinic will be supplying these in the future and will get replacement parts for the one I own.

I started off on a Resmed for a couple of weeks but quickly went onto a Fisher & Paykel sleep style 600 thermo smart which I have had for the last 4 years. Both these were given to me by the local hospital in Swindon.

I should have said, that even though I have my own machines, the hospital still see me (and my machines) for check-ups so I'm happy!

I bought my own 'M' Series APAP to start with because Southampton only had funding, on application, for 10% of people diagnosed.A year later, they had funding for an 'M' Series CPAP for everyone and that is what I use for work-a-night purposes. It only tells me how many hours I've used it, so every now and then I use the APAP and an oximeter for 'diagnostic' purposes - if I think my rig needs tweaking.
I have a privately purchased Apex III for travelling - sans everything except machine, hose (when I remember!) and mask - oh! and a Hose LIft.

hi all , i have a resmed escape 2, supplied by nottingham city hospital i am checked and the machine is serviced once a year (was twice) they are realy nice coundnt be more helpfull,and renew pipes,nose piece,and anything else at the appointment.i am realy pleased with the machine although have other heath problems that keep me awake.

I use a resmed funded by the hospital and although I am having problems and still suffering from tiredness they don't want to see me again until machine needs its check up next year ... when I needed help I had to really insist on seeing someone ...
they are blaming my other health problems for my tiredness and not bothering to check up with an auto cpap ... and having used a borrowed oxi meter which shows that I am still having events - my next battle is to try and get the hospital to listen.

Hi all, I was sent to my sleep clinic by my doctor back in January 2011, after sleep tests and a meeting with the consultant at the Pilgrim Hospital, Boston, he ordered me a Philips System one with a humdifier on the NHS. Both the hospital and philips resporonics has been a great support, not seeing consultant for another 3 months as he is happy with my compliance

I have a Resmed S8 with erp on which I was given from York Sleep clinic, I have a humidifier with it should I need to use it. The mask is a problem at times, have tried them all!! York is fantastic, spares etc are sent or if I need to see them they make an appointment, have a yearly check up and the machine is checked too. They are quite up to date with cpap's.

Was provided with a CPAP Machine on NHS -RES MED ESCAPE 11 - It is fantastic and is my friend to start living again. The machine was provided by North Manchester Hospital and the service was A1. I use the machine every night and had no problems apart from mask pressure on the nose - I use a full mask.
I had an initial assessment and was confirmed from the computer reading I was using my machine when I was asleep. Now I don't need to go to the hospital and they phone me perhaps every six month to tell me how its going.
If I need any need any new parts the are posted ASAP - the service provided is first class and I would recommend them for there care. Can I also mention Fairfield Hospital (Bury) who carried out my initial diagnosis and have been helpful and supportive since.
