Wow Suzie...... 10 stone!  Well done and no wonder you feel so much better.  It would be interesting if you had another sleep study to see the difference now.

Hi Richard

I suppose it depends on the reason behind the apnoea .... If it is structural then I would think no matter what weight you were or lose it would remain .... My husband lost 2.5 stone since starting CPAP he feels better for it but still needs Cpap at night pressure setting is currently 11 ....... I think unless they can pinpoint and correct whats causing the Obstruction then even if he was 8st it would still remain with him

Since 2004 I am using a CPAP SomnoSmart2 Weinmann. In 2004 my weight was 73 kilo. From 2004 untill now my weight is 88 kilo. Nobody cann tell me why this happened. I eat the same and i'am moving the same. I do'nt eat much, no chips, no sweats and I cook by myself all the lunches, and dinners. Who cann tell me how to lose weight???

The docter nor the specialist cann or will gave me an answer.

I'am sick of it and can't look into the mirror because it is not me who I see there.

That must be really frustrating Truus, as so many people report weight loss after successful treatment on CPAP.  Do you know if your treatment is successful?  Have you got access to your AHI?

There are also other issues to look into, such as checking for diabetes and having a thyroid check.  It is recommended to have these once a year if you have sleep apnoea.

Menopause in women is also yet another problem.

Truus, are you on any medication apart from CPAP they can cause weight gain or lose. Also I don't know if you know what you BMI (Body Weight Mass Index) which is basically your age x your height x your weight, are you well overweight for your height and age or do you just feel it. Kath is right with the other things you probably should get checked out. I know how you feel about weight, prior to being diagnosed with sleep apnea I lost 20 kg due to lack of sleep (everyone says you put on weight when you don't sleep), so I was then 10kgs below my ideal BMI, now I have put 13kgs back on since sleeping better but I have also changed meds and are a lot more active. I believe a lot of my weight gain is muscle. Also you said you move the same but are you or can you exercise?

Thyroid issues?

I was born in 1942 and had my menopause already when I was 45 years old.

Once a year the specialist controls my CPAP and with the CPAP I have about 3 to 5 apnea's pro hour
I'am going to sleep with a pressure of 4, than after 15 minutes it is 8 and cann go up till 11, if I need it.

Without the CPAP I had 48 apea's pro hour!

I also have had ( last week again) a thyroid check and a ckeck for diabetes, no problem

I have medication for blood pressure, to high, ad for cholesterol.

My age is 69 year, height 166 cm, and weight 87,4 kilos. BMI also 31.

I dont think I am ill because my functions are good. I can walk for an hour of 3, can go with my bike for deveral hours, do all the housework by myself and also the garden.
My excersises in sport are 2 or 3 times a week fittness.

I must start slowly with all what I'am going to do because I'am out of breath when I start to fast.

I am not happy because the woman I see is not me but another woman who is too fat.
