My Quest to Overcome Mask Leaks
I just returned from my sleep doctor and have great news. My AHIs have improved from 88 prior to treatment to 1.4 with my BiPap (Central Apnea). What's is really interesting is that my personality is starting to change - I am a much nicer person to be around. I feel less depressed, and not just happy, but perky!
My new quest is to conquer my mask leaks (ResMed Mirage FX). I am determined. I am seriously considering the hose lift next, but I have heard mixed reviews. I understand some people have problems fitting it under the mattress. I cannot affix it to my headboard, because it is very tall and leather. Before I invest, I would like to know if anyone else has had problems with the hose lift. I am loving my mask, leaks and all, so I would prefer not to change it. I am already using the velcro strap around the hose which clips to my waist and helps a bit with the hose tugging in the night.

That's FANTASTIC news Cathy! As for the Hose Lift, I wouldn't be without mine and think it should be part of the whole package ;) You may find that this also helps with the mask leaks, as it prevents the hose from dragging on your mask.
I've not had experience of that particular mask, but if you put in a search at the top right of this page for 'FX' plenty of posts should come up. Another way to help with leaks is to lay down with the mask loosely on your face and set the BiPap blowing at the highest pressure that's set for you. Whilst it's blowing, fasten the straps, just enough to prevent the leaks and use this setting as your bench-mark. You can also find online videos on how to properly fit the FX masks, as apparently there's a knack to it.

Cathy, I also meant to say that I've had no complaints up to now of people having difficulty with the hose lifts up to now, but I do know some people sit it with the base underneath their machines on the bedside cabinet too.

I struggled for 18 years with air leaks.
I also had a sore face because I kept tightening the straps to try to stop the leaks.
My hose-lift cured both problems from the first night I used it.
I wouldn't be without it - I even take it to hospital for my overnight Sleep Studies.

Thank you ladies, I really value your advice. I will be ordering a hose lift on payday. Are any of you using a cpap pillow? I know I sound greedy, but I would just love to be able to sleep on my side.....

Cathy, re the pillow, Until you get your CPAP pillow try turning your pillow(s) horizontal rather that vertical i.e. up and down your bed rather than across.
This worked OK for me, I now use two pillows a small hard one on the bottom and a soft normal one on top and it has a similar effect to a CPAP pillow. Also I haven't got a hose lift yet as I don't they sell them in Australia but I put the hose pointing upwards rather than to the side this also seems to help with leaks.

Just had my 'aha' moment Terry on why so many Australians buy the hose lift from our webshop. Shame they don't sell them there, but thankfully they are very light for postage.
