I started on CPAP on 19/12/11, and after a series of mask & pressure changes, the consultant has decided today to discharge me. I now only have go to them if I have a problem, need spares, or for an annual service of my machine. Today my pressure was upped to 15, and they gave me my 4th mask, an OptiLife Nasal pillows mask.
Cpap has changed my life beyond recognition, having gone undiagnosed for oner 20 years.

It only all came too once I started using Nasal pillows as all the other masks leaked, or made me feel claustrophobic. They also seem to work ok with higher pressures (mine is 15)
I'm the total opposite to this Terry, and always have been.....I would sleep through a bomb!

Thanks for the thought Julie, I am a bit sensitive to light and sounds, maybe from the years of undiagnosed SA and sub conciously or conciously waking every couple of minutes.
I can hear a cat walking past our front gate but are slowly getting a bit better.
Well I'm not sure if other sleep apnoea suffers have any of the following issues, I struggle with bright light and can't stand having the tv on when talking to either family in the room or on the phone. In fact I had to ask my Dad to switch his tv off while we chatted on the phone as the noise agitates me. I was always the one out in the pubs enjoying the loud music but now I just can't bear to be in these places.... maybe it's just an age thing? I do however sleep like a log although I think Kath even surpases me!! My head hits the pillow and within a minute I'm in a deep sleep...no drifting off for me :)
Terry: Hope you get better soon as it must be really difficult for you. Maybe some soothing music to help relax you might help.
I'm total opposite with the bright light - I like it as bright as possible, and the only time I use dimmed lighting is when settling down to watch a film. Think that's an eyesight issue though. I do hate background noise when I'm trying to concentrate though. Julie, I surpass most people (along with my son) at sleeping through anything. Hubby and daughter both sleep real light.
As for soothing music, there's some lovely music especially for sending people to sleep on this website http://www.bluesleep.com/ if you click on the Music tab.
PS Have just had another look (and listen) on the site and you can buy individual tracks.
