Sleep Apnoea Forum Bringing Help + Support to the Patient

Over the last month I have been having good numbers below three but I am very tired.   I have noticed that on sleepihead that it I am having areas on the graph there is a totally flat line.  On average I am still having  16 hypopnoea and also my RERA have increased up to 30 a night.  Why arent I getting a good nights sleep as i havent changed anything in the bedroom.  I know that my pain levels havent been great over the last few weeks but normally this doesnt effect my sleep.

Dee, I think you have your Sleep Specialist appointment soon, get them to check all your data, just make sure your leaks are Ok, apart from that, the meds you are on maybe affecting your results. It is very difficult for us to give advice especially when people are on meds for other illness's, I know it must be frustrating that you are doing the right thing and still not getting the results you want.

Yes I am going to go to my GP this week as I need to sort out my depression and pain levels.  for the last month and a bit my pain levels have increased a lot a couple times a week.  I try and take paracetamol to try and control the pain but it doesn't always help.  My leak level is just under 20% and no more than 43 second in length so that is good.  Yes I have loads of other things wrong with me so it not as simple as people would think to treat me.  I have number of allergies to drugs so it makes it hard to find one that I can take.  Yes I have an appointment on 23 April which isn't that far away only 4 weeks away.

Dee

My GP increased my Mirtazapine to 45mgs at night to see if that helps.  I think that i might have broken my left little finger as i had a fall yesterday. it is sore, swollen and painful to bend, i have straped it up to the finger next to it.  If the swelling hasnt gone down by monday i will get it checked out as this what the hospital have done anyway.

dee

Sorry to hear that, and hope the pain doesn't keep you awake.

Finger is a lot better can bend it without pain now.  I so so tired at the moment which i am not happy about.  From 31 March I'll on 45mg of Mirtazapine at night to see if I see an improvement with my depression, hopefully it will help or they might have to change both antidepressants as I'm on the top amount of both.

Dee

Good to hear about you finger Dee, and hopefully when you get your next sleep clinic appointment they'll be able to help you more.  When you're on successful therapy you may find (like many do) that your depression lifts so you can cut down on the meds.  'Hope' this is the case for you

Hi

I'm into my second week of taking the larger dose of Mirtazapine so I haven't seen much change but it is still very early days on the new dose.  It will be a year tomorrow 9 April that I have been on APAP and only missed just over 2 weeks of thrapy which isn't too bad.

Dee

It's always very difficult to assess tiredness levels when people are on other meds DeeNJai, as some cause tiredness and some actually limit the amount of REM sleep a person gets, so their AHI improves but that's due to not as much REM sleep, which again can cause tiredness.  Have attached a document on meds and sleep.

Hey there Dee

Pain and depression are terrible things to treat, nevermind alongside sleep problems.

Just as a marker for you, it took about 4 weeks for me on Mirtazapine before I suddenly felt like someone had turned the light on in my head.  I was on the same dose as you.

Are you getting any kind of treatment from a pain clinic?  Obviously I don't know your circumstances, but I have both pain and depression issues and would be happy to share any pointers or to sign-post you to other help if you want to PM me.

Mand

Haven't had any support from any of the hospitals that I was under once for pain.  The last time was nearly 10 years ago and I had two appointments at the Pain Clinic.  I try and keep things under control most of the time but with fibro a flare up can just come without warning.  My fibro has been under control just over 3.5 years with only minor flare ups.
Dee

For some reason since the increase of Mirtazapine to 45mg I have had bad dizzy spells which isnt very nice.  I started taking the higher dose on 31 March, I don't know what to do.  I am hoping that it will ease up in the next couple of weeks.  I didn't have any side effects from the two dozes of Mirtazapine.

Dee

Think Manda's away at the moment Dee, but hang in there for the 4 week mark she said when she noticed a big improvement from the Mirtazapine.
