Hi
I have been using a philips CPAP machine for about four months and my AHI has been anything from 0.3 to 2.6 but occasionally the 90% pressure drops from 9 to 8 and my AHI shouts up to about 5 and today to 8.7 is this normal? Mask fit is always 100%
Many Thanks

This can happen John when the default minimum pressure of 4 is set, which I stress does work for a lot of people, but sometimes clinics do raise that minimum pressure as if the pressure tends to run very low in between the apnoeas and then suddenly has to climb higher, sometimes it doesn't reach the maximum level it needs. Hope this makes sense and you could speak with your clinic about this - especially if it's happening often and you're feeling negative daytime effects when the AHI is above 5. Otherwise, those reading of 0.3 to 2.6 are excellent :)
Thanks for your reply Kath, I am not due for a hospital visit till October so I will see how he numbers go and contact them if it starts to creep up.
You're welcome John (my next appointment's October too as the May one got cancelled due to COVID). Just one other little thought is that if it's only been occuring recently it could be that you're getting more nasal stuffiness due to either hayfever, allergies or warmer nights. If this is the case then try to help the nasal stuffiness with something like Sterimar natural spray, or even a prescribed one from the GP. Nasal strips also help enormously to open up the nasal passages, and if you can't get to Boots or similar easily, we have some latex-free ones at the charity on this link https://www.hope2sleep.co.uk/snoreeze-latex-free-nasal-strips.html
